Coronavirus – Labor Law Regulations in Greece

By legislative decree dated March 11th, 2020 measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 in Greece have been issued. Among other measures in Article 4 of the above law decree changes to labor law regulations have been implemented.

It has been decided, among other regulations, with immediate effect and validity until April 10, 2020:

  • The obligation of the employer to register changes in employee‘s working schedule and overtime in the online system of the labor inspectorate is suspended. As long as this measures are in force the obligation for registration such information needs only to be registered during the first 10 days of the following month.
  • The employer may decide, that the work to be performed by the employee does not have to be performed at the contractually agreed workplace. (Note: This gives the possibility, new to the Greek labor law, to implement home office in Greece.)
  • Working parents can make use of a special purpose leave.
